Pruning Services

One of Wild Iris Living's specialties is pruning fruit trees and shrubs.

Fruit trees are treated differently than ornamental trees since they are be pruned to encourge optimal fruiting and harvest, as well as for overall plant health and aesthetics.

For apple, pear and crabapple trees, this is best done February through early March depending on the weather. This minimizes the spread of Fire Blight, a bacterial disease that is prevelant amongst members of the rose family.

Peach trees, which are quite tender for the Front Range, can be pruned in a couple of ways.  Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time.  Crossing branches and that which grows in towards the interior is more visible and can be removed late spring during dormancy.  Peach trees can also be pruned in leaf or while fruiting so you can see what needs to be cut back more clearly for increased harvests.

We are also skilled at improving the aesthetics and health of other ornamental trees such as aspens, birch, redbuds, serviceberry and hawthorns (also in the rose family), so give us a call if you would like us to take a look at what you have.

Shrubs are best pruned with their form, growing and flowering habits in mind.  We are quite skilled at restoring beauty to those that appear unkempt and love giving new life to shrubs that aren't flowering as profusely as they should be.  If you feel the mature bushes in your landscape are detracting from the property's aesthetics instead of enhancing it, please give us a call!
